Course Summary: This course is a continuation of Math 120.  The primary goals are to study rings, modules, and fields and to give an introduction to Galois theory.  

 

Prerequisites: Math 120

 

Examinations: One midterm and a final exam.  

 

Homework: Weekly sets, due in class on Mondays, beginning Monday, January 10.

 

Midterm: Due February 14th. Solutions

 

Final: Due March 15th.

 

Grading: Homework will count 40%, midterm 20%, and final 40%.

 

Text: Abstract Algebra by Dummit and Foote.  Roughly, we’ll be covering Chapters 10-14.
