Research

I am broadly interested in the geometry, topology, and arithmetic of algebraic varieties. My research focuses on the development and application of combinatorial methods in algebraic geometry. Recently I have been exploring nonarchimedean techniques including tropicalization and analytification, as well as combinatorial aspects of mixed Hodge theory.

I am a visitor at Stanford University and a member of the MSRI special program in Tropical Geometry, supported by a postdoctoral fellowship from the Clay Mathematics Institute (May 2006—May 2010).

Potential employers are warmly invited to view my CV and Research Statement, as well as a video of one of my recent research talks at MSRI. Letters of reference will soon be available from Professors Bill Fulton, Mircea Mustaţă, Bernd Sturmfels, and Ravi Vakil.
