"Taking a scientific approach to math and science education" Guided by experimental tests of theory, science has advanced rapidly in the past 500 years. Guided primarily by tradition and dogma, science and math education meanwhile has remained largely medieval. Research on the nature of expertise and how people learn is now revealing much more effective ways to teach and evaluate learning than what is in use in the traditional undergraduate science or math class. These more effective methods offer the potential for achieving greatly improved learning for all students by better utilizing the subject expertise of the instructors.
