You must register for one lecture section and for one discussion section. (See instructions below.)
Visit the Coursework site. (Coursework is often overloaded at the beginning of quarter, so if you can't log-in, try again in a few days. In the meantime, please attend a recitation section, even if not registered yet.)
In order to balance the workload between the two TAs, you may be switched to a different recitation section meeting at the same time as the one you chose. If this happens, you will receive an email.
The textbook is Single Variable Calculus : Concepts and Contexts (4th ed) by James Stewart.
A copy is on reserve in the Math library (4th floor of the math building).
I will follow this textbook in the lectures, and will use it for some of the homework problems and extra credit problems.
Stanford has a Peer Tutoring Program. For more information, see their website.
The undergraduate mathematics organization (SUMO) also has a service of free tutoring in a drop-in center. I don't have the exact days and times yet, but it usually starts in early October, and is usually on Monday and Wednesday evenings. I will make an announcement as soon as this information is available.
I encourage you to form study groups. You may find the Discussion page in Coursework to be helpful. Feel free to post messages for everyone.
I will assign homework weekly (on Wednesdays). I will announce new homework on CourseWork and on the course website.
Homework will be due on Thursday (the week following its announcement), in your discussion section. An exception will be the weeks of the two midterms, when (a shorter) homework will be due on Tuesday. Late homework will not be accepted. The lowest homework grade will be dropped.
The TAs and I will be happy to discuss all problems with you, even ones not assigned as homework.
You are encouraged to discuss the homework problems, and potential methods of solution, with other students. You must, however, write up your homework solution on your own. If the distinction is unclear to you, please do not hesitate to ask for clarification.
