Course description

This course will cover topics on holomorphic functions of one variable. We will begin with holomorphic functions, their properties as mappings, their study via line integrals, their zeros, poles, singularities, residues and their applications.

Course Works

Besides attending lectures and studying the subject before and after lectures, each student is required to complete

Weekly Assignment. There will be weekly problem solving assignments, due on the Wednesday the following week. The solutions must be turned in either at the end of Tuesday class or delivered to my office before 5pm Wednesday, not leave it in my mailbox. I also accept email submission of Latex generated pdf files. No scanned pdf submission. Late assignment will not be accepted unless granted in advance.

Examinations. We will have a one and half hours midterm and a three-hour in class final. They are scheduled at

  • Midterm: Tuesday, 2:15-3:45
  • Final Exam: Thursday March 20, 7:00-10:00PM

In case you have a scheduling conflict with the midterm, you may request to take it at an alternative time. If you do, please contact me one week ahead of the scheduled exam. Failing to do so may result in no credit to the affected exam.

Course Grade

The course grade will be assigned based on the rule:
weekly problem sets: 20%; midterm 30%; final 50%.
