Personal Information

Name: Fernando Guevara Vasquez, from El Salvador.
Current position: Postdoctoral researcher at Stanford Mathematics Department, working on wave imaging with George Papanicolaou.
Previous studies:
PhD in Computational and Applied Mathematics from the CAAM department at Rice University, Houston, Texas. Thesis title: On the parameterization of ill-posed inverse problems arising from elliptic differential equations. Advisor: Prof. Liliana Borcea.
I graduated in 2000 from ENSEEIHT (École Nationale Supérieure d'Électrotechnique, d'Électronique, d'Informatique, d'Hydraulique et des Télécommunications) a french national engineering school located in Toulouse, France.
Previous positions:
[2001] Software engineer for the PALM project (an MPI based data assimilation library) at CERFACS (European Center for Advanced Training in Scientific Computing).
[2000] Internship in the CERFACS Parallel Algorithms team on Domain Decomposition methods (advisors: Prof. Patrick Amestoy, Prof. Michel Daydé, and Dr. Luc Giraud)

Beer brewing

Together with Denis Ridzal we have been experimenting with the exciting hobby of home brewing. The inspiration for our brews is the book "Beer Captured" (Szamatulski, Szamatulski). All the brews we have done have turned out delicious, even if sometimes the result is not always what was intended in the recipe. But that's just part of the fun! Among the things we have tried are,
