Prediction, renormalization, and long correlation times

Abstract:

I will present a pedagogical account of the Mori-Zwanzig formalism for prediction from partial data, with an emphasis on its relationship with renormalization, and on the special case of long correlation times. This last case is of special relevance to fluid dynamics. (joint work with O. Hald).
