Space-Time Coding for MIMO Wireless Systems

Abstract:

This talk will overview Space-Time Coding (STC) in multiple antenna wireless and explain what is well understood and what is not. It will begin with the MIMO wireless concept, the need for special coding techniques and introduce a systematic approach to define the coding rate in such systems.

It will then survey STC aimed at maximizing diversity and point out areas of new research. It will then discuss STC techniques that maximize rate and outline current proposals and areas for new research. It will end with comments on diveristy versus rate tradeoffs.

The talk will be aimed at the math community who wish to get an insight into this rapidly emerging and important field in wireless engineering.
