A break-down criterion for the Einstein equations

Abstract:

I will talk about a recent work with I. Rodnianski concerning a break-down criterion for the Einstein equations of General Relativity. We show that as long as a maximal, or constant mean curvature, foliation does not become infinite in the uniform norm, the corresponding space-time can be continued. The result is a genuine, conditional, large data result.
