CS468 covers a variety of topics related to geometric algorithms, with different areas chosen each quarter it is offered, so it may be repeated for credit. The chosen area is covered through a series of student presentations of research papers in the field. An overview of subareas may be given first by the instructor or his assistants. A paper presentation is required in order to pass the class, which is only offerend on a pass/no credit basis. Auditors are also welcome.
In the fall 2003-04 the focus of the seminar will be geometric modeling using point primitives, distance field representations, and molecular models, The common theme is meshless representations of geometry based on simple primitive elements like points and balls, and implicit definitions of manifold objects from such collections.
